Want to Get Fit in 2018? 3 Things to Try
By Virginia Laird
“Let’s Get Physical, the song by Olivia Newton-John, is always on my mind when I think about fitness. But seriously, getting fit is not at easy as her lyrics make it seem. If you are looking to get fit in 2018, there are several things you should consider. Before deciding which path is right for you, it can be wise to consider what end result you desire, as this can help identify your best path. Personal trainers remind those setting fitness-related goals to keep them simple. Having goals which are too complex can be setting yourself up for failure before you ever begin. Fitness instructors have offered a few suggestions in relation to getting fit, including:
- Join a gym
- Take up yoga
- Walk daily
Join a Gym
Joining a gym is just one way of trying to get fit this year. Although paying the fees is hardly enough, it is the first step. Making the time to get to the gym should be a priority. This does not mean you need to plan on spending hours exercising. Research suggests as little as 20 to 30 minutes at least three times a week can be enough to impact your health.
Take Up Yoga
A great class to try, for those who have not been regularly exercising, is yoga. This is a slowly paced class which focuses mostly on stretches and poses. But do not write this class off, these exercises build strength and tone the muscles of the body. If you are one who prefers a faster-paced class, it may take you a couple of classes to fall in love with this workout, but you will undoubtedly love it.
Walk Daily
Looking for an easy way to begin a get-fit year? Taking a walk is a great place to begin. Making time to walk through your neighborhood can be enough to get the blood flowing, build cardio, and burn calories. If you don’t have time to walk, consider taking the stairs at work rather than the elevator. This can offer the same benefits of a brisk walk.
Now you are ready to embark on your path to get fit. Get out there, get moving, and get your fitness goals in full swing. Good luck and may your 2018 prove to be your healthiest year yet!
