Injuries From Slip and Fall Accidents
By Randi Morse
There are a lot of things that we can plan for in this life, but one thing we cannot plan for are accidents. No matter how cautious we are, or how much we take care, accidents happen. If you slip and fall your body is caught off guard. This means that your muscles do not have time to prepare for the impact, which makes it much more likely that you will receive an injury from your fall. If your bone or your joint take the full impact of the force of the fall, you may find yourself dealing with some unpleasant, painful side effects.
Fall Injuries
Our bodies are amazing things, they are built to protect us and usually do a great job of it. When you fall, however, your body doesn't have the chance to prepare for the impact. To give you an example of how our body can protect our joints and bones, let's take a look at martial arts. When you practice martial arts there is almost always some sort of bodily contact that happens. You are taught to brace your body for the impact. If you're going to be hit in the stomach you would tense your stomach muscles This tensing creates a strong barrier between your organs and whatever is hitting you.
During an accidental fall your body doesn't get the chance to prepare. You don't have time to tense your muscles and prepare for the impact. Instead, your body is so unprepared that the impact that occurs when you connect with whatever solid surface you fall on can result in serious damage to your joints, muscles, and bones. Even if you don't feel the pain immediately, there is a good chance you will wake up the next day with aches and pains.
Chiropractic Care
Chiropractors can offer a great deal of relief from slip and fall injuries. If the fall results in joint restrictions, a chiropractor can gently manipulate the body in order to repair the restriction, relieving your body from the pain that it is in. Chiropractors can also use other treatment options, such as massage, in order to relax and repair sore muscles.
