Healthy Sweet Snacks
By Randi Morse
No matter how healthy you try to be, most people eventually find themselves craving something sweet. Having a sweet tooth is a normal thing, but no one likes that guilty feeling you get once you've indulged in your sweet cravings. The good news is that there are a number of healthy snack options you can enjoy to sate that craving without having to feel guilty.
Vegan Chickpea Cookie Dough
Is there anything more delicious and forbidden than raw cookie dough? Unfortunately, eating raw cookie dough is not a healthy option. Not only is it filled with calories, raw cookie dough contains raw eggs, which can be hazardous for your health. Try, instead, vegan chickpea cookie dough. This cookie dough uses a whole can of chickpeas to get a creamy texture (and as an added bonus it's the same color as traditional cookie dough), then simply add some dark chocolate chips and you'll have a delicious, yet healthy, alternative to your favorite forbidden treat. You can find the recipe here.
Apple Dip
Looking for a sweet dish but don't feel like cooking or creating anything complicated? Mix up some Greek yogurt, honey, and peanut butter and use it as an apple dip! This dip takes already sweet apples and triples the sweetness. If you've got a craving for something sweet, this definitely fits the bill.
Apple Cookies
Keeping with the apple theme, let's talk about apple cookies. these cookies aren't real cookies, they're a much healthier alternative. Simply slice an apple into rings and remove the core from all the slices. Spread your favorite peanut butter over the side and add some of your favorite toppings, like coconut, almonds, or chocolate chips.
Frozen Treats
Fruit and chocolate both freeze beautifully, so why not combine the two to get a cold sweet treat? Slice up some bananas and use a fork to dip them in melted chocolate. Using melted dark chocolate makes this treat even healthier. Then put them on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze. Make sure you leave enough room between the bananas to freeze each individually as it makes it easier to store them in a container once they're frozen. Frozen blueberries are also a great idea! Use a toothpick to dip your freshly washed blueberries into Greek yogurt, then spread them on a parchment sheet and freeze. You can even put these to freeze next to your chocolate covered banana slices.
