Intimidation? Fly Solo With Body Weight Exercising
By Stephen R. Farris
When you go to the gym to work out, do you sometimes feel a little intimidated by others? Maybe they are running and walking at a faster pace on the treadmill than you are, or lifting heavier weights than you. This can be very intimidating regardless if you are a beginner, or if you have been working out for a while.
There is another option if you feel intimidated at the gym to the point where it makes you feel uncomfortable, or worse, makes you feel like not working out at all. That option is working out at home with what's been given to you. Your body.
You can usually get the same results you'd get at the gym just by using your own body weight. All it requires is that you simply move your body.
In the Comfort of Your Own Home
The advantage of body weight workouts is that they can be performed in the comfort of your own home, anywhere, and anytime of the day. All it takes is getting up and performing exercises using your own body weight as resistance. Once you get into the habit, you can literally exercise anywhere. On trips, during breaks at the office, at the park, or even while waiting for the kids to get out of school.
Less Expensive
Another advantage of body weight exercising is that it doesn't cost anything -- or maybe a little if you need new shoes -- extra, like gym or fitness centers charge for memberships. Of course, you'll still need to pay your utilities. After all, you might want to get a drink of water during your break. The only cost you may incur is if you choose to buy an exercise mat, or maybe some hand dumbbells to use during your workouts. Other than that, it literally won't cost you a cent.
Less Intimidation
Exercising alone, at home, will also make you feel less intimidated. Actually, you shouldn't feel intimidated at all since there's no one there to watch you during your workouts. The lack of an intimidation factor should alone put you at ease, so you can work out at your own pace and not feel scrutinized.
It Works!
Body weight exercise works! It helps build muscle (even without all of those cumbersome weights or uncomfortable machines found at the gym), helps build endurance, and helps give you better flexibility, according to research studies.
The point is, you shouldn't have to feel intimidated no matter where you exercise. With body weight exercise you don't have an excuse to give up. Conquer and move forward!
