No Gym Required for Exercise
By Donna Stark
If you have the desire, motivation, and time to get into shape, but are overwhelmed by all the options offered at your local gym, don't worry! There are plenty of workouts that don't require a gym you can choose from. On top of that, they may even be more fun to participate in! So much fun, in fact, that you won't even realize how many calories you are burning! Want to know what a few of them are? Take a look at the following suggestions from your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic.
Head to the Course
Depending on where you live, you may only need a few minutes to drive to your nearest golf course. Playing a round of golf will help to improve your balance and strength as well as your cardiovascular health, especially if you skip the cart and walk the course instead. Just be sure to stretch your body real good before you head out and dress in layers! The game may start off a bit chilly but it could warm up as the day progresses.
Hit the Trails
No matter what the season is, it is always a good time for a hike. Unlike walking, hiking can be better for your body because the trail's inclines and declines force you to engage your core, glutes, and hip muscles. Hikes can also stimulate your sense of balance which will reduce the risk of future accidental falls. If you choose to hike alone, make sure you let someone know the course you plan to take and when you expect to be back home.
Shop to Your Heart's Content
Shopping for exercise? Sure, as long as you plan it right! Shopping at the mall is a great way to get your walking and stair climbing in while staying safe and warm during the winter. It can also serve as a great workout for those recovering from previous injuries. Have a lot of shopping to do? Even better! The weight of your bags will give your arms a perfect workout!
Workouts Can Be Fun
Not every workout needs to be filled with heavy weights and strenuous activities. There are many more ways you can stay fit without even noticing. Making your workouts fun is a healthy and productive way to stay committed to your fitness goals. Whether you are a teen wanting to build muscle, an adult wanting to control body weight, or a senior wanting to fire up that heart rate, these activities will surely get your blood pumping.
