Patience Is Also A Form of Action
By Donna Kostiew
I remember a time when the only quote I would hear about patience was the one that stated “patience is a virtue,” and it was usually told to me by my mother when I was acting up. Now, anybody can go online (hello Pinterest) and find hundreds of quotes on the topic, specifically suited for whatever kind of situation a person is in on any chosen day. We are reminded to be patient with most everything. But do we willingly practice patience when the need for it is at its greatest? When the pain is so intense that all we really want is the “quick fix”? Having patience while being treated for pain and discomfort by your chiropractor can be one of the hardest things to go through, but most often, it is the best choice to make for your health.
Many times a patient wants to rush the healing process and searches for that “quick fix” because they either want to get back to being active as soon as possible or they simply want the pain to stop. This search will often lead them to medications that only mask the symptoms and certainly do not treat the underlying issues. The healing of our bodies cannot be rushed and less pain doesn’t always equate to “problem solved”.
Why Have Patience with Chiropractic Care?
The human body is designed for this - Chiropractic care focuses on treating the issues and maintaining the body’s health naturally. Chiropractic adjustments work by helping to place your body in its proper position, and by doing so, this allows your body the chance to heal itself and prevent further injury. It is important then, to allow your body to follow its own timeline with this and to not artificially speed up the healing process.
The quick fix rarely works – Rushing your body and sending it back out into the world without proper healing will only increase the chances of further injury and prolonged pain. This often happens when medication is used to mask the symptoms and when the underlying issue is ignored. It can become a vicious cycle, but one that can be broken with chiropractic care. Patients can avoid potentially addictive prescription medication and invasive surgeries with this approach.
There are so many other benefits to be had - Chiropractic isn’t just for pain relief and healing. It also promotes general wellness and disease prevention as well. This non-invasive approach reduces the stress placed on a body’s immune system and allows the nerves to work freely and optimally, which in turn has a positive impact on every cell and organ in your body.
You can’t rush something you want to last forever, so remember to practice your patience with your chiropractic treatments.
