Dr. David Olt grew up in the Midwest, living in both Dayton, Ohio and Indianapolis Indiana. He continued his education by attending Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Business.
He came from a family who believed in chiropractic and remembers going with his mother for her adjustments when her back went out. His grandmother was also a big advocate and continued receiving care into her 90’s. Dr. Olt’s first adjustment came when he was 16 after being injured playing tennis.
Upon graduating college he spent 3 years in Pittsburgh, PA as a retail executive but moved to Atlanta in 1989 to be with friends and soon started at Life University where he graduated Cum Laude in 1994. He then practiced for a year in northwest Indiana, 5 years as an Independent Contractor, and ultimately opened Integrated Chiropractic Center In Buckhead and served that community for 15 years. In July 2016, he joined the team at the Joint and splits his time between the Buckhead and Chastain Square offices.
Personal honors in his life have been running the Olympic Torch in 1996, receiving the 4 Avenues of Service Award from Rotary in 1998 and Member of the Year from the AGLCC in 2014. He is also one of the examiners for the Chiropractic National Boards.
His favorite catch phrase is “I’m always doing my best work behind your back”.
Dr. Samir Hajariwala grew up in the small town of Dublin, GA. He completed his undergraduate education at Georgia Southern University graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology in 2002.
After graduating from GSU, he worked as a microbiologist for about 1 year before realizing that this was not what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. It was then that he received his first chiropractic adjustment which really drew this attention to chiropractic. He was so thrilled with how impactful an adjustment could be on a person that “did not have any pain” that he wanted to further explore how it affected someone with significant pain.
In 2004, Dr. Hajariwala enrolled at New York Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls, NY. After graduating from NYCC in 2007, he practiced in Rochester, NY for 2 years until his wife finished her medical residency.
In 2009, Dr. Hajariwala and his wife moved to and began practicing in Naperville, IL (45 mins west of Chicago). It was there that he developed his skills and focus on biomechanics. He learned that a person can only function as well as their body’s structure will allow them. “Structure governs function.” He had the unique opportunity to work side-by-side with other chiropractors, a doctor of physical therapy, and a pain specialist gain a better perspective on delivering a well-rounded approach to health care.
Most recently, Dr. Hajariwala, with his wife and 2 kids, moved back to GA to be closer to family. He joined The Joint team in February 2018 and works out of both Buckhead locations (Disco Kroger and North Chastain).
Although he now resides in GA, he is still a Chicago Bears “fan for life.” His hobbies include travelling the world, football, basketball, and discovering new restaurants to enjoy. His wife, Dr. Anita Gandhi is an OB/GYN with Kaiser Permanente and he has a son named Dilan and daughter Ella. They also have a dog named Dexter.
Dr. Karen Joanson joined The Joint Chiropractic family in 2017 when she became the local chiropractor for the Sandy Springs and Buckhead clinic locations. A graduate of State University of New York - Oneonta, she received a bachelor’s of science degree in psychology and a doctorate of chiropractic from Life University in Marietta.
Dr. Karen -- you can also call her Dr. K -- could not be happier doing what she’s doing.
“The best thing about being in the chiropractic field is healing people’s spines so they can live the best self they can be,” she says. “I also love the interaction with people of all ages.”
Dr. Karen grew up in New York before coming to the south for college. In her spare time she enjoys travel and, more locally, riding her bike on the BeltLine.
She says she loves working here because of the great wellness coordinators and the great working relationship she has with Dr. Erika.
“I knew chiropractic was my calling when I saw how powerful it is in the healing process,” Dr. Karen says.
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Karen says the one thing she always keeps in her kitchen are avocados: “They’re a great saturated fat!”
If she could meet any four people from history for the dinner party of her dreams, Dr. Karen would like to gather together a president, a painter, a doctor and a singer: “I would love to talk to Daniel David Palmer, who invented chiropractic; George Washington, our first U.S. president, to talk about all the changes that have happened; Vincent Van Gogh, the post-impressionist artist, because I love his works; and Madonna because I loved her music growing up and she influenced a generation.”
Dr. Karen says her own real-life brush with greatness has provided some of the coolest experiences of her life. “I have worked on many movie sets and provided backstage chiropractic to many musicians,” she says. “I loved working on Def Leppard and the set of the ‘Walking Dead.’“
