Does Sleeping Hurt More than Working?

By Tom Herrin

Most of the time, when people experience pain, it is due to some kind of accident or injury related to work, travel, or performing some task at home.  The last thing many feel like can cause them pain is sleep.  Of course, simply sleeping is not the cause, but sleep position may be the root of many problems.  People are often unaware of why they wake up in the morning day after day with an aching back.  They may attribute it to a bad mattress, which is possible, but many times it is the way they choose to sleep.  Environmental factors aside, bad positions can hurt.  If you wake up feeling as if you had slept outside on the ground all night, a visit to a chiropractor may have you enjoying sweet dreams again.

Sleep Position Can Be a Major Factor

People have all kinds of sleep positions that they prefer.  Sometimes it may require some training to become acclimated to sleeping in one position that is better than some others.  The one that seems to be the most likely to cause pain is sleeping on the stomach.  This places undue strain on the muscles of the back while providing no support.  Sleeping on the side can be better.  It is suggested that the knees be slightly bent, maybe using a pillow behind them to maintain that position.  Sleeping on the back can be fine, but again, using a pillow under the knees can help to maintain that slightly curved position that is best for the spine.

Chiropractors Can Relieve Pain and Help With Planning

When people visit a chiropractor, they are likely to be given an adjustment in which the spine is gently manipulated so that the injured joint is restored to its proper position.  This relieves the pressure from a nerve and relieves the pain.  It is all natural, so no pain medication is used.  The chiropractor may also be able to make some useful suggestions regarding what sleep position may be best for the individual.

Regular Visits Can Be Meaningful

Once people experience the pain relief that can be provided by a chiropractor, they are likely to want more.  At The Joint Chiropractic, they have plans that may make that possible for anyone.  No insurance is required, no appointments are necessary.  They are open days and evenings, weekdays and weekends at all of their more than 425 locations nationwide.  If you wake up wondering if that nightmare was real, drop in at The Joint Chiropractic today and start sleeping pain-free tonight.
