4 Sleeping Tips for a Better Night's Rest

By Brandi Swieter

Getting enough sleep each night is one of the best ways to ensure overall health. A lack of sleep can quickly lead to an array of other problems if people aren’t careful. It’s easy to experience fatigue, muscle weakness, stress, diabetes, and even heart disease without proper rest to keep the body strong and healthy. By following some sleeping tips, people can get a better night’s rest that puts them in better health as well.

Set a Bedtime and Wake Time Every Day

It’s not enough to set an alarm to wake up at a particular time each week, such as for work or school. People should be going to bed at the same time every night and being sure to wake at the same time every day as well. This schedule needs to be followed every day, regardless if it’s the weekend or a holiday. This will help the body and mind stay on track and get proper rest each night.

Follow a Bedtime Ritual

People typically cannot lay down in their beds and immediately fall asleep. It often takes some work to get to bed, especially for those who have thoughts swirling in their heads they can’t seem to shake. Following a bedtime ritual is one of the best ways to combat this. If the same routine is followed night after night, the body and mind will be used to it and be ready to shut down at the right time. This could be as simple as taking a warm shower and using a lavender essential oil in a diffuser.

Get Enough Exercise

Exercise tends to help the body fall asleep. It has worked hard doing this physical activity and needs to rest in order to recuperate. It’s important for people who struggle to sleep to start exercising every day, even if it’s just for a little while.

Keep the Bedroom Cool

The ideal sleep temperature is anywhere between 60 and 67 degrees. People should try their best to keep their rooms at this temperature so they can fall asleep faster. Making it noise-free and completely dark will help as well.

Adequate rest each night will go a long way in helping to keep health problems at bay. Follow these tips to experience a better night’s rest and keep the mind and body healthy. Anyone who still feels sick, sore, or otherwise uneasy after trouble sleeping should visit The Joint Chiropractic to have an assessment.
