4 Steps Toward Meeting Your Fitness Goals
By Brandi Goodman
Everyone should have goals to improve their level of fitness. Whether you're a beginner looking to get started exercising or you've been working out for years and want to increase your muscle mass, four steps will help you to meet whatever goals you have in mind. Just be sure to start slow and remember that meeting these goals will take time.
Set a Final Goal First
Your first step should be setting one final goal that you want to reach. You may want to lose 100 pounds. Perhaps you want to be able to bench 200 pounds. These large goals should be your starting point so you can later set smaller goals that will help you reach them a little at a time.
Create a Plan
Simply setting your end goal isn't the only step you need to take. You need to actually create a plan that can help you get there. When it comes to losing weight, for example, you should have a goal of losing so many pounds per month or losing a set amount by each major holiday. You might want to also break it down further. Decide what clothing size you want to fit into. Perhaps a goal will be to get to a size 16 by Halloween and then a size 14 by Thanksgiving and so on. This will help you to actually get to your final destination if you have all the steps in mind.
Celebrate Every Goal You Meet
All small goals you meet throughout your journey should be celebrated. It can be easy to feel like you still have such a long way to go and will never get there. Celebrating what you have accomplished so far can help you to stay on track and see how far you've come already. It's a great way to stay motivated.
Get Enough Sleep
The amount of sleep you get each night will also play a major role in determining whether or not you meet your fitness goals. You won't have the energy or strength to get your workouts in and meet your goals if you aren't resting adequately. Your body needs time to recuperate and heal after a tense workout, and sleeping at least eight hours each night will ensure it does.
Start out small and celebrate the victories along the way and soon you'll be meeting that big fitness goal you have for yourself. If you never start, though, you'll never get there. Keep these steps in mind and do your best to stay motivated and you may just surprise yourself.
