Foods That Fight Cancer Symptoms

By Brandi Goodman

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Though there is no actual cure once you develop this serious disease, there are methods that can help to fight symptoms and minimize discomfort. Certain foods offer unique health benefits that have the potential to lower the risk of certain cancers developing in the first place. Use these foods to fight.

Spinach

Spinach and other leafy greens provide beneficial nutrients that can ward off cancer. Cancer of the esophagus, stomach, and mouth are most likely to be prevented by eating lots of this vegetable. Use spinach to start out your salad and top it with other healthy ingredients for a daily lunch that packs a lot of power when it comes to keeping you well.

Acai Berry

An acai berry offers antioxidant powers that combat cancer. It can help to kill off toxic cells, such as those caused by leukemia. If you can't get your hands on the actual berries, then a supplement created with the fruit will suffice.

Nuts

A handful or two of nuts per week offers a chance at fighting cancer. Walnuts and pecans are two of the best options that provide a high antioxidant content. Breast cancer and pancreatic cancer seem to be the two fought off the best by this food group.

Strawberries

Everyone boasts about blueberries as an antioxidant powerhouse. Though you should add this fruit to your diet as well, strawberries are another to be considered. The red fruit packs a lot of nutrition. Cancers of the skin can possibly be prevented due to the ellagic acid found in strawberries. Lung, bladder, and breast cancer are also said to be warded off easier with a diet rich in strawberries.

Protein

Protein is beneficial to your body, especially when you need to heal it. Stick with low-fat protein sources. Eggs, fish, and poultry are excellent choices. These all contain nutritional ingredients that can work to fight off certain childhood cancers, such as leukemia. Pair it with whole grains and vegetables for a disease-fighting meal.

Nutrition plays a vital role in overall health. Add these foods to your diet and your children's if you want to fight cancer symptoms and possibly prevent certain types from developing at all. A healthy diet helps to create a healthy mind and body.
