Fighting the Flu With 5 Tips in Mind

By Brandi Goodman

The fall season is also flu season for many people. The changing weather and close proximity within schools and stores during back-to-school and holiday shopping plays a part in this. With some tips in mind, you can fight the flu and keep it away from your household as best as possible.

Drink Lots of Water

The body needs water to stay hydrated and working well. Drink lots of it if you hope to ward off illness. Getting enough water in your diet can help to boost your immune's system response so you can fight a virus easier.

Wash Your Hands Often

Don't just wash your hands after you've used the restroom. You should be washing your hands incredibly often if you hope to keep germs at bay and prevent illness. Wash them after you've touched any surface that others have come in contact. Wash them before you touch food and after you've touched it. Wash them after you've shaken someone's hand. You never know who might be sick and passing their germs onto you. At the very least you should carry hand sanitizer on you to use when needed.

Disinfect Surfaces

Disinfectants are available to clean your home and workspace. Disinfect surfaces regularly so you can keep them free from bacteria. This is especially important for shared spaces that others come in contact with regularly.

Get a Vaccine

The flu vaccine was made to prevent the spread of the flu. Many different forms of the virus can be spread, and this vaccine does not protect against all of them, but it can help to keep you from getting as ill as you normally would. Get the vaccine yearly to help give yourself an extra layer of protection. You should get it before the end of October to be sure it's in effect before the peak of flu season arrives.

Take a Sick Day

If you do get the flu, it's wise to take a sick day. It will help you to get enough rest time so your body can recover. It also prevents you from spreading your sickness to others. You wouldn't want others to come near you when they're sick and pass it to you, so don't be the one to pass it to others.

Fight the flu this fall season with these tips in mind. You want to keep your household as healthy as possible so you can enjoy the beginning of the holiday festivities. No one wants to be sick instead of enjoying festivals and events.
