It's Time to See a Chiropractor!
By Sara Butler
If you suffer from low back pain, then reaching out to a chiropractor for help may not be the first thing you think of -- but it should be! Many people struggle with back pain and are unsure what to do about it. If you’re living with back pain, here are some signs you need to seek help from the chiropractors at The Joint.
Where’s the Pain?
When your back hurts because of pain generated through a soft tissue injury such as a pulled muscle, it’s different than the pain that may be caused by pain due to a structural issue, such as joint restriction or dysfunction. The pain you experience due to joint restriction or dysfunction likely won’t respond to treatments you try at home. The pain will persist no matter how much you rest or how much over-the-counter pain medication you take. This is pain that needs the attention and treatment of a chiropractor.
Is it a Pinched Nerve?
The way your spine is set up means that the spaces your nerves must go through aren’t very roomy. Sometimes a disc -- the structures that cushion the space between your spinal bones -- will bulge, moving into the space that the nerve sits in. This causes the nerve to become pinched, impairing its function and causing pain.
When a nerve is pinched, it creates pain that is sharp and often gets worse with certain kinds of movement. You may also experience numbness, the sensation of needles pricking the skin, or a burning sensation. You may even feel pain running down one leg all the way to your toes since the nerves in the lower back branch out to your legs.
If you suspect you have a pinched nerve, see the chiropractors at The Joint to have your pain evaluated.
Other Therapies Haven’t Worked
Pain can interrupt your daily life. If you’ve tried heat, ice, over-the-counter medications, massage, or other therapies and they haven’t helped you find relief, then you need a chiropractor. Your chiropractor can tailor a treatment plan to address your individual needs and help you manage pain that may be taking the wind out of your sails. A well-rounded treatment plan is important in the treatment of low back pain.
The chiropractors at The Joint see you without an appointment, so don't struggle with pain -- have an evaluation done today!
