Why Are You Having Headaches?
By Sara Butler
Headaches, beyond being painful, are such an annoyance. If you have them regularly, then they can certainly take your day off the rails. But instead of taking over-the-counter medication each day or just trying to power through the pain to get things done, there are some easy and natural ways to eliminate headaches and stop them before they start. Here's what you can do.
Are You Hydrated?
Your brain loves water and if you don't get enough of it, then it can let you know. Many headaches may be your body simply trying to tell you that you're not getting enough water.
How much water is enough? That depends on you. The chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic suggest that, unless you have other health issues to be considered, you should drink about half your weight in ounces of water daily.
How's Your Diet Looking?
Diet and nutrition can also have a big impact on your body, including your head! Some foods can trigger headaches in people. If you think there may be a connection between what you're eating and your headaches, consider keeping a food journal so you can identify any patterns between the food you consume and the onset of headaches a few hours later. If you need more guidance, talk to the chiropractors at The Joint.
How's Your Breathing?
Sometimes a headache can be an indication that your brain simply isn't getting enough oxygen, especially if you have regular throbbing or pulsing headaches. That's why it's always a good idea to take some time out of your day to practice deep breathing. It will help you deal with stress in your everyday life and also help you to focus on breathing in deep and getting your body all the oxygen it needs to function optimally.
Are You Slouching?
Another big contributor to regular headaches is your posture, especially if you're slouching and pushing your head forward. This can wreak havoc on the ligaments and muscles in your neck and shoulders, leading to frequent headaches. Talk to the chiropractor at The Joint about what you can do to improve your posture and make sure to have regular chiropractic adjustments to address any joint restrictions or dysfunctions that can result from poor posture and make headaches worse.
The chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic see many patients each day for headaches. The cause may not be what you think, so it's best to get it checked out by a chiropractor to trace the root cause and treat it.
