Enjoying a Healthier Fall Season and End to the Year

By Brandi Swieter

The fall season is the last before the snow hits and the end of the year arrives. Staying healthy during this time is important to many, as there are far too many activities, events, and holidays to enjoy and celebrate in these last few months. It’s possible to remain healthy as long as some precautions are taken.

Get More Sleep

It may be easier said than done for some, but getting plenty of sleep is necessary for remaining healthy. Sickness sets in easier for those who already have a compromised immune system due to lack of sleep and lots of stress. Stop using electronics at least a couple of hours before bed and close curtains to block out light.

Sit Around a Fire

Homeowners have the ability to add a firepit to their backyards. Sitting around a fire like this is a great way to boost health, as people often get a boost in mood and relieve stress when being outdoors. Watching the flames burn can be a great way to de-stress and relax after a hard day. A fire is also perfect on chilly fall nights as it warms you up.

Fall Cleaning

Rather than spring cleaning, people should perform a fall cleaning to their homes to help clear out dust and debris. Now is the time to clean out the gutters, dust off the windows, and get rid of any stuff that’s accumulated over the summer months. Wipe down walls and ensure there is no mildew growing throughout the home. Dampness breeds mold, so this is a common concern and reason for illness during wet seasons.

Keep Water By Your Bed

Remembering to drink water throughout the day is ideal, but one of the best times to drink is directly upon waking. People need water to flush out toxins within their bodies and help with digestion. Keeping a water bottle by your bed will increase the chances of consuming it in the morning to help start the day off right.

Drink Bone Broth

A hot cup of broth can be very soothing on a cold day. Bone broth is one of the better options because it contains many health benefits. It’s a great way to boost immunity and prevent getting sick. It also fights inflammation, strengthens the teeth, and alleviates symptoms of the common cold. Drink a cup regularly to get these benefits.

Fall time can be fun, but people can miss out on many of the offerings if they’re too sick. Remaining healthy can happen as long as people are taking the necessary precautions and doing what they can to keep themselves feeling well.
