How to Add in Short Workouts to Boost Fitness

By Brandi Goodman

Getting in 30 full minutes of exercise each day can seem tricky for people with time constraints. Many are far too busy to spend time exercising. At least, that's what they believe at first. Adding in short workouts throughout the day can greatly boost your fitness and health.

Take the Stairs

Skip the elevator. You do nothing but stand still and get transported to the floor you need. This goes for escalators as well. Taking the stairs is an easy way to get in some exercise without having to spend too much time doing so. It should only take an extra minute or two out of your day to take the stairs instead.

Turn the Music Up When You Clean

Even during a busy day, many people try and get some sort of cleaning done when they're home. Turn up the music when you do. This makes you more likely to dance and enjoy the time spent cleaning, which can burn more calories than just completing the act itself. Make this a habit every time and you may start associating happiness and fun with your cleaning routine.

Take a Walking Lunch Break

Most people get a lunch break at work. Instead of sitting down for 30 minutes and eating a meal, take a walking break instead. Grab some on-the-go food, such as a protein bar or apple, and walk around a block or two. Walking significantly boosts fitness and health.

Exercise During Commercials

TV time is a way to unwind for some people, but it doesn't have to be spent sitting down the entire duration of the show. Get up during commercials and do a few jumping jacks or squats. This way you're still getting to enjoy your show but also getting a bit of a workout in at the same time. Some people even set up their treadmills or other exercise equipment in front of their TVs so they can enjoy a longer workout while they watch.

Adding fitness into your more common routines is a great way to improve your abilities without having to spend lots of time doing so. Over time, you may find yourself wanting to get in even more exercise after you notice how well you feel and how much healthier you become. Start small and add exercise where you can and you may quickly experience the benefits.
