Start Your Cold Morning Right With a Hot Breakfast
By Brandi Goodman
National Hot Breakfast Month in February encourages people to actually take the time to sit down and have a home-cooked meal. Don't grab some packaged food item on the way out the door. Start your cold morning right with a hot breakfast that will benefit your health.
Get Your Metabolism Working
The mornings can feel quite cold during the winter months. Now is the best time to make hot breakfasts each day. It starts up your metabolism which can help keep you a little warm. Your body will be using up the nutrition you're eating to convert it to energy.
Boost Your Energy
Speaking of energy -- the right foods go a long way in giving you enough to make it through your day. Eat processed junk and you'll be crashing quickly. Consume a nutritious meal packed with vitamins and minerals and you'll be more likely to make it through your tasks without feeling like you could fall asleep on the spot.
Burn Calories
Your body won't start burning calories until you eat. Start with a hot breakfast and your body can begin the process of converting it to energy and using it to burn calories. This is important if you're working on weight loss. Too many people skip breakfast altogether and yet can't figure out why they aren't losing.
Enhance Focus
Just as you need energy to get through the day -- you also need the ability to focus. If you have a school day to get through or a workday to complete, then you'll need to focus on your tasks at hand. Eating a breakfast full of nutritional value can help to enhance your focus and keep your mind on your work. You won't have to spend your morning thinking about what there is to eat or worrying if the person next to you can hear your growling stomach.
Prevent Unhealthy Snacking Habits
Skipping breakfast may lead to overeating later in the day. You'll be so starved once it gets to lunchtime that you'll end up eating way more than your body needs. You may even find some unhealthy snack choice in the meantime. Prevent dangerous snacking habits and overeating by being sure to get in a good breakfast.
A hot, healthy breakfast provides an excellent start to your day. Make some eggs and turkey sausage for lots of protein. A bowl of hot, steel-cut oats with fruit is also a good choice. Just be sure to make your meal at home and skip the drive-thru since even their hottest options are still filled with sugar, sodium, and more calories than you need.
