3 Sports That Make Fun Workouts
By Genevieve Cunningham
When most of us think about working out, we think about running torturous miles or joining a class at the local gym. We don't necessarily equate workouts to having fun. It's supposed to be work, right? Not necessarily. As it turns out, getting and staying fit can actually be a lot of fun. If you want to be healthy and have fun on the fitness journey, take a look at these three sports that make really fun workouts with friends.
Soccer
There are two great things about soccer as an adult. First, it will get you in incredible shape. You'll be running and moving almost constantly. But because you're also chasing a ball, the running will only be noticeable when you stop moving. Second, it's a low contact sport, especially when you're playing for fun. And since you're probably not in the greatest shape and certainly not used to being pushed around (think hockey, football), it's an easier way to play your way into fitness.
Volleyball
Whether you're playing in an old local gym or outside in the sand, volleyball is a ton of fun. You need a ball, some kind of court, and some friends. You don't need to worry about jumping high or having perfect skills. Just get out there and have fun. Just a little volleying back and forth is enough to really get your heart pumping. You'll get in some jumping, squatting, running, and hitting. Your muscles will burn and you'll build stamina. But volleyball is fun, so getting in a workout won't feel so much like a chore.
Tennis
Tennis requires a bit of hand-eye coordination, but once you figure it out, it's a ton of fun. One of the great things about tennis is the minimal equipment. You'll need a tennis ball (or a few) and a racket! Then you'll find a partner, a local court, and have some fun. Tennis will work the arms, but it also requires quick movements of the legs and abdomen. If you want something fun, tennis might be worth a try.
Working out and staying fit can be so much fun. Use these sports as a way to improve your body while hanging out with friends. With the right approach, keeping your physical health intact will be easy and enjoyable as the years go by.
