Are You Doing These Things to De-Stress?

By Genevieve Cunningham

Stress is killing you. It doesn't matter who you are, this statement is almost always true. We live in a stressful world, and we do very little to lower stress on a consistent basis. It's as though we just expect to live busy, stressful lives -- and for some unknown reason, we accept this as reality. But does it really have to be this way? Or can we lower our stress and feel healthier and happier on a daily basis? Luckily for all of us, lowering stress is absolutely possible. And to be completely honest, it's also completely necessary. If you're ready to lower stress and feel better today, take a look at these habits that lessen your stress and boost health.

Slowing Down Your Morning

If the morning is out of control, the day feels out of control. We get irritable and easily agitated when we're rushing around like crazy people first thing in the morning. If you want less stress, start your day off stress-free. Wake up early and go through your morning routine slowly. Rushing creates even more stress -- and that's before your day has really even begun! Give this a try and you may be shocked at how much of a difference it makes on the rest of your day.

Getting Really Good Sleep

Are you making sleep a priority? If the answer is no, then you are part of the problem. Sleep is crucial for good health, and especially crucial for managing stress. Go to bed on time. Don't waste time watching Netflix or browsing your phone. Turn off the lights and go to bed! The better rested you feel, the easier it is to let little things go and regulate the stress that you regularly feel. Give this a try -- and be patient with the process because it can take a while to change your sleeping patterns and get on track.

Engaging in Personal, Fulfilling Hobbies

You shouldn't be spending all of your time working. This creates even more stress, and it certainly doesn't help you get rid of any current stress. Make sure that you're spending regular time doing something fun and personal. Something just for you. Maybe you love hiking. Do it. Maybe you love reading. Go to the library and spend some quiet time. The more you get away from the stressful things and engage in fun things, the easier it is to put the stress down and relax.

Lowering stress is important. It matters for your health, and it also matters for your mood and the way that you feel about life. Use these tips to lower your stress every day, and watch your health improve like never before.
