3 Exercises You Can Do Without a Gym Membership
By Genevieve Cunningham
When it comes to exercise, the gym offers a lot of benefits. It has ample equipment, personal trainers to provide guidance and information, and motivation from the other members. But if we're being realistic, joining a gym isn't always a good choice. Sometimes it's just not possible -- we live too far away, don't have the time, or it's not in our budget. Luckily, whether or not you join a gym isn't the deciding factor on your health. There are ways to get healthy even without an expensive membership. If you need to work out without the gym for a while, take a look at these three exercises you can do without a gym in sight.
Running and Walking
Whether you want to take a low-impact approach with walking or a higher impact approach with jogging, each of these exercises is easy to do without a gym. You'll need some supportive shoes and a space to do it -- whether that's a park, a neighborhood, or even a treadmill. Walking and running both work every muscle group in the body, burn calories, improve endurance, and tone your body for better health and higher self-confidence.
Biking
If you already have a bicycle, you're in a good spot to give this workout a try. And if not, check out listings for used bicycles in your area at an affordable price. The thing about cycling is that it's fun. Yes, it's a hard workout and burns your legs and allows you to burn massive amounts of calories over time. But more importantly, it's so much fun. If you like the sound of jumping on a bike and riding to your heart's content, get a bike, find a trail, and start pedaling.
Jump Rope
Jumping rope is probably much harder than you remember. It's actually an incredibly intense cardio workout, and your legs, lungs, and even abs are likely to feel some serious burn. And best of all, all you need is a jump rope -- which you can get for a minimal price. Make some space outside, get a rope, and be prepared to feel this workout in no time at all.
A gym can certainly bring a lot of advantages to your workout journey. It can provide you with things that you wouldn't have otherwise -- like weight machines, indoor tracks, and swimming pools. But if need be, you can definitely get fit without one. Use these workouts to improve your health and build a strong body all without ever stepping foot in a gym.
