Fiber-Filled Foods to Keep You Feeling Full

By Genevieve Cunningham

One of the hardest parts about dieting or lowering your overall caloric intake is that hungry feeling. You know … you’re just fine, and then all of a sudden it sounds like a bear is trying to escape your stomach. Hunger is the worst! But if you’re trying to lose weight, that feeling is almost unavoidable while your stomach adjusts to the lower volume of food being consumed. If you’re in the midst of this stage of dieting (or you’re about to be!), take a look at these fiber-filled foods that can keep you feeling full and satisfied all day long.

Pistachios

These delicious little nuts are packed full of both protein and fiber! This means that you’ll feel full, but you’ll also be fueling your muscles and encouraging fat burn. You’ll definitely want to be careful with portion size, as all nuts contain fats that when consumed in too large quantities can contribute to weight gain. Just measure out one serving size, or if you’re in a rush, fill up the palm of your hand and go with it.

Bananas

This is a really easy snack to keep in your kitchen. You just grab, peel, eat, and toss. And due to their high amount of fiber, you’ll also feel fuller much longer with a quick bite of banana. To add to their value, bananas also contain high amounts of potassium which can help beat muscle cramps and spasms and also keep blood pressure level and even.

Popcorn

This salty, satisfying treat contains a ton of fiber, but here’s the catch: If you want to keep your diet healthy, you can’t microwave it from those bags you get in the grocery store. Instead, opt for air popped or skillet popped popcorn. This version still fills you up with fiber, but it doesn’t load you down with fat or calories. Salt lightly or add another low fat topping, and enjoy this treat morning, afternoon, or night.

Apples

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, right? It also keeps the hunger away! Apples are full of both fiber and water, two things that keep your stomach feeling full and content. Grab an apple for one of your snacks, and you’ve just set yourself up with a powerful nutritious punch as well as a ton of fiber to keep you satisfied. And to add to the benefits, apples can also keep you hydrated and clean your teeth in between brushes.

Dieting becomes a lot easier when you don’t have to worry with excruciating hunger. These snacks can help you feel full and satisfied without that empty, frustrating, hungry feeling that often makes you break your diet. Use them as a staple in your diet, and you’ll be ahead of the game in losing weight and staying healthy.
