Back to School: What to Remember About Health

By Genevieve Cunningham

It’s that time of year. The most dreaded and most highly anticipated. It’s time to go back to school. Depending on your role in life, you may love this time of year or hate it. But either way, it’s a good time to reconsider your health status and make changes toward better wellness. If you would like to start this new school year off with better health in mind, take a look at these tips to help you start off on the right foot.

Buy Supportive Clothes and Accessories

Sure, you want to buy the cute clothes and shoes no matter how they feel. Heels? Cute flats? That cute bag that slings over one shoulder? Though it can be tempting to buy your school supplies based on appearance only, make sure you’re also buying support. Buy shoes that are cute and comfortable and supportive. Don’t buy clothes that are too restrictive. Buy a bag that is supported by both shoulders to reduce the chance of back pain. Surround yourself with things that are healthy, and you’ll feel healthier throughout the year.

Consider Packing a Lunch

School lunches aren’t really known for being exceptionally healthy. If you want to protect your health, just pack your own. This allows you to control both the total calorie count as well as the nutritional value. Sure, it takes a little more work and preparation. But in the long run, it’s one of the best things that you can do for your health and fitness.

Don’t Forget Rest and Mental Health

It’s easy to get caught up in the rush back to school. Everything is so busy! But if you’re trying to stay healthy, don’t forget that rest is essential. Now is the best time to reinstate a good bedtime. It’s a good time to do a mental health check and keep your emotions in line. This is an aspect of health that often gets overlooked, so make it a priority for the best health yet.

Back to school season can be packed with fun! But there’s certainly no denying that it’s busy, busy, busy. Don’t let your health suffer, or that of your children. Keep these things in mind while you’re getting ready for the new year, and experience better health and wellness all year long.
