Summer Health Tips to Keep You Moving
By Genevieve Cunningham
We all love summer. It's the season of sunshine and fun. It's when we book vacations and stay out late and get golden, sun-kissed skin. There's not much that could ruin our perception of summer -- unless your health doesn't allow you to enjoy it. Being sick or pain-ridden in the summer is the absolute worst. It prevents you from having fun and keeping up with family and friends. But what can we do? If you want to stay healthy and active this summer, take a look at these three tips to keep you moving in the right direction.
Stay Cool
One sure-fire way to ruin your summer is by allowing your body to overheat. The heat is a big deal in the summer -- especially in the south. When we get too hot, we dehydrate. And dehydration leads to sore muscles, headaches, dry mouth, confusion, fever, and in the extreme cases, death. Make sure that you're staying cool by wearing season appropriate clothing, staying in the shade, and drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
Relax More
Another great way to ruin your summer -- and your health -- is by allowing stress to take over your mind and body. Granted, we can't always help when stress enters our lives. But we can certainly do our part to keep it at bay. And one great way to do this is by taking the time to relax. Use your scheduled time off. Use your vacation days and sick days, and don't overwork yourself. Give yourself time to lay out in the sun, read a book, or just to lounge around at home. These days are so important to our overall health and well-being, and the summer is a great time to make this a habit that sticks.
Keep Up Your Workout
It's easy to let the workout fall behind in the summer. Between sleeping in and traveling and getting together with friends, we often skip the gym. But if you're serious about your health, you'll keep this important part of your life intact. Even if you're active anyway, try to keep some semblance of a workout going. This helps with routine, and it will encourage you to keep a healthy lifestyle, even when fun is at the focus of your life.
We all want to enjoy our summer. We definitely want to feel refreshed when the school year rolls back around. And with the right tips, we can actually make this happen! Use these little tips to get your health intact and keep yourself refreshed and well through the summer and all year long.
