Why You Should Keep Learning No Matter Your Age
By Genevieve Cunningham
Even though we don't consciously think about ending our journey into learning, many of us stop making progress when we leave school. We still learn a few things as we age, of course, but we often stop putting actual effort into the learning process. We don't seek out the challenges of learning something new. But as it turns out, this may be the absolute worst approach. Learning is something we should be doing as long as we're alive. Many people know this, but don't understand the severity of it. So what's the deal? If you aren't taking the time to learn new things, take a look at why you need to start learning and keep learning starting today.
It Keeps You Young
Learning new things helps us stay young. Even though our body will constantly age, our minds are more likely to stay sharp. Learning new things helps our memory, our problem solving skills, and our basic attentiveness. Learn so that you can feel young and capable no matter how many years pass you by.
It Improves Mental Health
Mental health is a big deal. It impacts our quality of life and even the tiniest parts of our everyday world. But learning something new can help maintain better mental health. Not only does it keep our brains working and evolving, but it gives us purpose. It gives us something to work toward and a goal to meet. If you struggle with mental health, you already know that idle hands are bad news. Instead, stay busy and involved with a new learning project, and you'll keep your mental health moving in the right direction.
It Helps With Happiness
Happiness is really what we're all striving for anyway. Without learning new things, your happiness is sure to decline. Learning something new can make us excited about the new project as well as excited about the possibilities. It gives us so much to look forward to. It gives us hope and energy and an open mind. If you want to feel happy, continually choose new projects and work toward new goals. You'll feel more personally satisfied, and you'll also open up your world into new and surprising possibilities.
Don't ever stop learning. The best part about learning as you age is choosing whatever you want. Do you want to learn French? Go for it. Do you want to learn how to build the perfect birdhouse? Have at it. Just learn! Learning is a huge part of loving your life, so keep your brain and knowledge growing, and you'll reap some wonderful benefits along the way.
