4 Ways to Help Lower Your Blood Pressure

By Stephen R. Farris

Have you ever been diagnosed as being borderline with high blood pressure? Maybe your primary care physician suggested prescribing medication to help keep your blood pressure under control, but you had concerns about doing so.

While it may not be a cure-all for hypertension, there are natural methods to help keep high blood pressure in check and possibly lowering it closer to normal standards.

Skip Processed Foods

Cutting back on, or doing away completely, with processed and packaged foods can be a game-changer when it comes to lowering your blood pressure. Processed foods can contain hidden carbs and are usually higher in sodium content. Change up your diet by eating more green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits. Add fish to your diet, along with lean cuts of meat such as chicken and turkey.

Cut Out Tobacco Products

Smoking can lead to heart disease, and could also be the cause of your higher than normal blood pressure. Studies show that by quitting smoking and/or using tobacco products greatly reduces your chance of developing heart disease and can help lower your blood pressure.

Take Away Your Stress

Stressful environments can cause your blood pressure to soar. It might be time to take a step  back and find out where and what the stressful areas are in your life, and do your best to eliminate them. You might try several minutes of meditation each day, several times per day to help lower your blood pressure. Do things that are relaxing, such as reading a book, listening to music, going for a walk, or cooking something new in the kitchen.

Herbal Medicines

Another method to help lower blood pressure is to try herbal medicines. Many cultures throughout the world still use herbal medicines for many ailments.

  • Black bean
  • Cat's claw
  • Celery juice
  • Chinese hawthorn
  • Ginger root
  • Indian plantago
  • Roselle
  • Tea
  • Sesame oil
  • Umbrella tree bark

This is a partial list of some you might be able to find locally, or order from the internet.
