Relieving Allergies and Enjoying Fall Again
By Donna Stark
Perhaps it was the long summer days and nights, the fun memories made with family, or the persistent summer heat that has made the arrival of fall seem like such a surprise, and for those who suffer from seasonal allergies, it's a surprise they were hoping to avoid. Fall should be a time of pumpkin spice and everything nice but instead, it's a time of watery eyes, itchy throats, and runny noses. And unfortunately, that can really put a damper on all the fun activities ahead. If you suffer from seasonal allergies, take a look at the suggestions below to see how you can relieve some of those allergies and start to enjoy autumn.
Always Check Pollen Levels
One of the easiest ways to avoid pollen or other allergens that are present during the autumn season is to check the pollen levels in the mornings before you start your day. Pollen counts follow a simple cycle during fall. They rise in the morning, peak at midday, and then fall during the evening. So, the next time you're planning to watch leaves fall, be sure to check out when pollen is falling too.
Purchase a Dehumidifier
As wonderful as humidifiers are for helping with difficulty breathing, dehumidifiers are proven to help those who are sensitive to dust and mold. Dust mites, mold, and other toxic allergens have been shown to grow best when they are in a humid environment. Therefore, taking away that humidity from your home or workspace may prove to be beneficial to you and those around you.
Protect Yourself When Outdoors
Planning ahead is always a great way to stay protected from the weather, the harsh UV rays, and those bothersome allergens in the air! When you're tasked with fall chores such as raking leaves, mowing, and trimming tree branches, be sure to wear clothing that can help keep pollen out of your eyes, mouth, and nose. Wearing protective glasses and a protective face mask can significantly decrease the amount of pollen that is likely to affect you.
Remove Pollen from Yourself
We don't often realize how much pollen and dust sticks onto our skin, especially during seasons where it is prevalent in the air. Making sure you are changing your clothes when coming in from outside, taking off your shoes before entering your home, and washing your hair and body are easy ways to minimize the amount of pollen you bring inside.
Enjoying Fall Again
It is often said that when leaves are falling, autumn is calling, but for allergy sufferers, it may be more appropriate to say when pollen is falling, allergies start calling. Fortunately, the tips above are sure to bring relief and, hopefully, you'll be able to enjoy all the things there is to love about fall.
