3 Tips for Getting Fit This Year
By Virginia Laird
A lot of people are planning to get back in shape this year. While it may not take much to get out of shape, getting back to a place you like can take a great deal of time and effort. Fitness gurus have made a few suggestions as to how you can begin getting back in the best shape. Some of these tips include:
- Choose the stairs over the elevator
- Go for a walk or jog
- Add yoga to your day
Choose the Stairs Over the Elevator
While the elevator is known to get you from one floor to the next quickly, choosing the stairs is a great way to tone your legs and burn a few extra calories. Health and wellness experts suggest that simply taking the stairs at your office on a daily basis can be enough to help manage weight, keep those legs swimsuit ready, and help you squeeze in a workout without heading to the gym. And, because exercise is helpful in relieving stress, climbing the stairs at work can help you get all the stress out before you head home to your family.
Go for a Walk or Jog
Although there are many who prefer taking a workout class, fitness experts admit that walking or jogging daily can be enough to provide a great workout. Research has proven time and again that walking at least two miles each day can get the heart pumping, burn calories, and release tension in the body. Likewise, for those who love to jog, going for a run (whether brief or lengthy) can be beneficial to weight management, stress relief, and promoting good overall health and wellness. Fitness experts advise that if you are looking to get fit this year, adding a walk or a jog to your daily regimen might be what you need.
Add Yoga to Your Day
In recent years, yoga has become increasingly popular. For those who are not familiar with this exercise, it focuses on meditation techniques and poses to help tone and sculpt the muscles of the body while building strength and clearing the mind. Many celebrities give credit to yoga as the sole reason they stay as fit as can be. If you are looking for a slower-paced workout, yoga may be relaxing and challenging enough to get you into the shape you need without having a mental battle to complete the workout.
With the new year in full swing, there has never been a better time to get yourself moving and whipped into shape. Good luck!
