When Protecting Your Body, Don't Forget Your Face

By Paul Rothbart

The various parts of your body need care and protection. This includes internal parts such as the heart and other organs, the bones, the muscles, and tendons, and ligaments. Then there are the external parts such as the skin, hair, and fingernails. Protecting your body from the potential harm that life can throw at it is essential for good health. Make sure you don't neglect your face. It's what you show to the world and it can express every emotion. Surely there is someone in your life, your significant other, and certainly your mother who loves your beautiful face and doesn't want any harm to come to it. Here are some tips for protecting your face.

Wear a Hat in the Sun

The sun feels good on your face and it is essential to good health as its rays enable the skin to make Vitamin D. Like most things, too much of it can be harmful. Sunburns hurt, but worse than that, the face is a common place for skin cancer to develop. Wearing a wide-brimmed hat can provide your face with constant shade and protect it from harmful UV rays. You can get skin cancer in the winter just as easily as in the summer, so wear a hat on those cold, but sunny days. There are many fun styles of hats that provide protection so you can make a fashion statement while keeping your face safe.

Use Sunscreen

A good hat can be very effective but when it comes to the sun, you can never have too much protection. Beachgoers are usually thorough with sunscreen on most parts of the body but tend to forget the face since it's generally always exposed. Any skin that is out in the sun should be protected. In the cold weather when you're bundled up, your face is still usually uncovered. Put sunscreen on it on sunny days. There is no offseason for skin cancer.

Wear Protective Gear When Playing Sports

Playing sports is a lot of fun, but injuries are always possible. In contact sports, your face is vulnerable to fractures of the cheeks or eye sockets. These are serious injuries. Helmets, face masks, and mouth guards were invented for a reason. Protect your face with proper gear so you can show the world your beaming smile when you win a game.

Protecting your body is an important part of avoiding injury. No part should be neglected. Don't forget to protect your face. It's a major part of your identity, and facial health issues and injuries tend to be serious.
