Learning What to Wear to Your Chiropractic Visit
By Brandi Goodman
You may think you can walk right into the chiropractor with the clothes you have on and there will be no issue. This is truly dependent on exactly what it is you're wearing. Certain clothing should be avoided while other options are advised to use. Knowing what to wear before the first visit can help you have a better experience overall.
Avoid Jeans, Wear Leggings
Jeans are not banned from the chiropractor. However, you most likely will end up feeling uncomfortable in them as you have to twist and turn on the exam table to get your adjustment. Leggings or other athletic pants are better suited for an appointment because they allow you to move more freely. They tend to remain in place without bunching up like jeans do. You also do not wear belts with these types of pants while jeans may require one.
Skip the Skirts
Some women may arrive in a skirt or dress without thinking. Because you'll have to move around a lot during the adjustment, it's best to avoid wearing open clothes like this. A pair of pants is really what is recommended so you can feel the most comfortable.
Choose Sneakers or Flats
You might not think that the shoes you're wearing matter much, but they could. The doctor might need to ask you to stand up and perform certain exercises so they can see your range of motion and help pinpoint problem areas. Boots or bulky shoes might inhibit your movement. Sneakers or flats are the best options for a chiropractic appointment.
Keep it to One Layer
One layer of clothing is all you need. If you have more than that on, your chiropractor may find it difficult to perform the actions they need. A thin T-shirt or long sleeve is really best in this situation. Avoid sweatshirts and sweats that are thick or bulky.
Avoid Accessories and Jewelry
Any accessories you may have, such as belts, hats, and watches, should be removed before your appointment or once you arrive. These will only get in the way and push into you as you're being worked on the table. To keep the adjustment as comfortable as possible for you it's best to skip wearing jewelry as well. These items can also push into you during the appointment and cause discomfort. Necklaces, in particular, should be avoided as they could become wrapped around your neck.
Always make sure to wear the right clothes to each chiropractic appointment at The Joint Chiropractic. It will help you get the most out of your appointment as it is easier for the doctor to remove joint restrictions and work the area without bulky clothing in the way.
