3 Secrets to Shed a Few Pounds This Holiday

By Virginia Laird

Although you may no have had any success in the past, when it comes to preventing weight gain this holiday season, there are things you can do to actually make this goal a reality. Health and wellness experts advise that you should begin with a goal in mind. Having a goal in mind can help you stay focused while trying to achieve some results. A few tips these experts suggest you should consider adding to your holiday routine, include:

  • Consider skipping the dessert
  • Avoid piling on your plate a second time
  • Make time to exercise

Consider Skipping the Dessert

Skipping dessert is a great way to limit your calorie consumption, which can help prevent weight gain. Although these temptations tend to be the most tasty part of any holiday table, it is best to avoid consuming these desserts. Health and wellness experts advise that a better thing to do is to find a healthy alternative which can satisfy your need for something sweet. For some, this can be a Greek yogurt. Others may prefer some fruit. No matter what you decide to make your sweet treat, make sure you have a healthy alternative to pies and puddings.

Avoid Piling Your Plate a Second Time

For many, holiday dinner is much about piling your plate a high as possible. After scurrying back to your spot at the table and gobbling everything you have stacked elbow deep, you may consider heading back in for another serving. Health and wellness experts advise that going back for more, may not be the best idea when it comes to trying to avoid weight gain. These same experts suggest that it is better to make sure you get a small serving of everything you want to taste the first time you visit the buffet. While this can prove to be a difficult task, your waistline will certainly be glad you skipped out on seconds.

Make Time to Exercise

For those who would like to avoid the nearly certain weight gain of the holidays, it is highly recommended that you find time to exercise. Although many would believe that exercise must take place in a gym, this is not the case. Health and wellness experts advise that you need only a 30-minute workout at least three to four times each week to help promote weight loss. These same professionals suggest that a brisk walk through your neighborhood, a jog, or a bike ride can offer a great workout.

Now is the time to begin planning how to stick to your goals while enjoying your holiday meal.
