Why You Need More Humor in Your Life
By Brandi Swieter
Humor helps make bad situations sometimes bearable. By seeing the funny side of life and learning to laugh about things, more people can use laughter as a way to de-stress from the daily stresses of living. Even something as simple as watching a movie in the comedy genre can promote a healthier mind. Everyone needs to find ways to add humor to their lives to get the many benefits it can bring.
To Burn Calories
Laughter doesn’t just put people in a better mood. It actually burns calories. Roughly 10 minutes per day spent laughing can add up to a few pounds lost throughout the year. Spending hours laughing with friends or even curling up on the couch in front of a movie comedy for 90 minutes can have a positive impact on your weight loss journey.
To Promote Bonding
People who laugh together share a bond. They realize they share an enjoyment for some of the same things, or share the same humor. This can bring two people together quickly and help forge friendships. Watching a funny movie together or attending a live comedy show could both be great ways to bond in a relationship or friendship.
To Lengthen Your Lifespan
It is said that people who laugh more often tend to live longer. Laughing helps promote health and keep the heart strong. The mind and body feel more at ease and stress-free when laughing often. Simply watching comedies regularly or cracking up at jokes with friends can lengthen people’s lifespans.
To Relieve Stress
Stress is felt often in life. Work and home life each bring their own share of stresses. Many people may feel overwhelmed with the amount of tasks they have to accomplish and items on their to-do lists that they simply cannot fathom handling them all. Taking a break to watch a funny movie or find time to do something that makes you laugh is a great stress reliever. It will help to free the mind from anxieties and worries and reduce tension felt in the body. After some time spent laughing, people are much more able to get their minds back on track to their workload.
Improving health doesn’t have to always mean working out and eating right. Though these should be included, adding humor to life is another great way to enhance one’s overall health. Spending time laughing with friends, watching funny videos, seeing a comedy in theatres, or otherwise enjoying humorous things is great for de-stressing and clearing the mind of troubles.
