Enhance Mental Health at Work and at Home

By Brandi Goodman

Your mental health matters. This sentiment is true whether you're at home or at work. No matter where you're spending your day, it's important that your mental well-being is considered so you can make the most of it. It can be difficult to put your best foot forward if your mind is holding you back.

Mental Health at Home

When you're at home, you're more likely to feel at ease. You don't have the stress of finishing work tasks on your shoulders. However, home life can be hard to manage at times as well. Perhaps you have children who rely on you for rides, homework help, dinner, and support. You might have a spouse who requires your attention. House work can build up and cause you stress. There's lots at home that requires your mental capacity, so improving your mental health can help.

Start by finding a space that is all your own. Create a corner of your room that is yours only. Set up a spot where you can sit and read, write in a journal, or do some art. Place a few inspiring quotes nearby or add a few pictures that bring you comfort. Go here when you need to get away from it all.

Mental Health at Work

It can be difficult to work when you're not in the right head space. Perhaps your home life is getting to you, or the tasks you're assigned are simply too overwhelming for your mind to handle. You need to boost your mental health at work so you can remain productive and manage your daily goals.

Make sure your workspace is right for you. Of course there will be company rules that won't allow you to make certain changes, but you should be able to make some reasonable enhancements. A better chair may be in order, such as one that offers lumbar support for your back and can be adjusted to the right height. Having a journal at your desk may also be wise. It allows you to jot down positive thoughts so you can read those later and focus on the good aspects of your job rather than what bothers you about it.

There's always options for improving your mental health. Whether you're at home or at work you can find ways to ease your mind and make your environment more comfortable so you can be productive. It's just a matter of trying out some things and seeing what works best to put your mind at ease.
