Your First Appointment
Before you even step foot into the chiropractor's office, there's something you can do at home in order to prepare ahead of time. Take the time to write out your health history, as well as any current concerns that you may have. Writing this all out ahead of time can really help your doctor of chiropractic understand what your body needs to be healthy. Furthermore, writing things out ahead of time can prevent you from forgetting anything in the moment.
Like most other doctors, your first visit will more than likely consist of a conversation about your health history and any concerns you may have before they do a physical examination. Depending on your physical needs, this exam may also include X-rays and other tests. At the very least, the chiropractor will probably examine your spinal column. He or she will be looking for restrictions, which are commonly referred to as "misalignments." These misalignments can build up along the spine over time as a result of injuries, stress, or other factors. They can lead to increased inflammation, which often results in pain, stiffness, and soreness throughout the back, neck, and joints.
Next, the chiropractor will be ready to perform manual manipulation techniques in order to reduce these restrictions, which may be causing harm throughout your body. Chiropractors use techniques that are all-natural, and therefore very safe. When the restrictions are reduced, many patients report experiencing an immediate sense of relief from many symptoms, including back pain, headaches, and indigestion.
