Active Children and Chiropractic Care
By Randi Morse
My children are teenagers now and live much more calm, sedate lives, but when they were younger they were fairly wild. It was normal to see them running all around the house, and the yard, playing on the swing set and jumping around on the trampoline. I always worried that they would injure themselves, but I also knew that children needed to be allowed to be children, to get out that excessive amount of energy that kids always seem to have. As long as they were doing it as safely as possible, I reasoned, I should step back and allow them to just be kids.
I wish I'd known then what I do now, about how beneficial chiropractic care can be for active kids. We tend to think that our children are almost invincible. After all, they can take a tumble and get right back up. If we, as adults, were to have that same type of fall we'd likely be on the ground for at least a few minutes, disoriented and taking inventory of our body to see what we damaged. While kids are more bendy and heal faster than adults, they, too, can benefit from regular chiropractic care.
Rapid Growth
Children tend to go through growing phases. For a few months or so it will seem like they are going to stay the same size for a long time, and the next thing you know all of their pants are too short and their shirts are too tight. These rapid growth changes that children experience can be made easier and helped by a chiropractor. Muscular imbalances, or small changes in the joints known as subluxations, can grow with your children, causing little aches and pains and making it more difficult for them to grow properly. These joint restrictions can even cause loss of natural flexibility.
Chiropractor and Kids
Chiropractic care is absolutely safe for children. The chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic work on children differently than they do adults. They perform gentle adjustments and work for gradual, slow changes rather than large adjustments. These changes can help ensure that your child's body is able to grow, stretch, and flex as it is supposed to, allowing your child to grow with a solid foundation. The Joint Chiropractic has walk-in office hours making it easy to have your child seen by a chiropractor even if they have busy academic and social schedules.
