Fall Activities Can Improve Health

By Tom Health

As the seasons change, so do many of the activities people may be involved in.  Summer has its share of hot weather with shorts or swimsuits and all the things that go along with them.  Fall has its own distinctive activities that can be available for opportunities for people to find ways to enjoy themselves and improve their health at the same time.  Many times, that cooler air can have a tendency to make people feel energized and enthusiastic about trying to be more active.  Their bodies just seem to respond to a new stimulus, so it becomes a great time to put forth more effort and see results.

It Is A Good Time For Harvesting

The fall is often thought of as the time of harvest.  People can get some quality exercise from things as simple as picking, or picking up, something that is ripe.  Whether it is apples or pecans or something else, the simple activity of gathering those things can burn calories and provide for more stretching and moving.  Doing this for only an hour or less can have results.  It usually needs to be done on a regular basis to keep up, and the work can be rewarding.  A few hundred calories may be burned with these short bursts of activity.

Outdoor Games May Be Productive

There are an abundance of outdoor games that can provide good exercise.  When I was in college, I would go out and play a very modified game of touch football with friends.  We did this just about every day because it gave us a chance to socialize and get a little activity at the same time.  Before long, I found that I was in much better shape and interested in improving more.  I adjusted my diet and lost 35 pounds in a few months by having some simple activity on a regular basis.  There are all kinds of activities that can be very pleasant as the temps become more comfortable.

Try Some New Foods

There are many foods that are associated with the fall.  Visiting a farmers market can be an eye-opener.  Trying some new recipes with foods fresh from fall harvests can make for some good variety in meals.  You may surprise yourself with some of these.  The varieties can add some great nutrients that you may not normally get in your diet.  Be adventuresome and try something new.  It may round out your diet and improve your health.
