Are Berries a Part of Your Diet?

By Tom Herrin

As people make efforts to adjust their diets, there are plenty of things to choose from.  Many times, we use a moving target by constantly finding some different kinds of foods to include.  It is understandable that for some, price is a big deal as they struggle to balance all of their needs.  We have all heard a considerable amount of talk about the value of berries.  This is one case in which the talk is correct.  Berries are known for their properties to do some wonderful things.

They Provide a Good Source of Fiber

Fiber is one of those things that is missing from many diets.  With the abundance of fast foods that so many consume, a proper amount of fiber is often lacking.  Fiber can serve several functions.  It can help to slow movement of food through the system, helping to maintain a feeling of fullness longer.  This can be great for those who struggle with eating too much by slowing their calorie intake.

They Are Known for Their Antioxidant Properties

There has been plenty of information about the benefits of antioxidants in recent years.  They are able to do several things to improve health.  They can help reduce inflammation.  They also help to slow wrinkles in the skin.  They are believed to prevent cancers of the mouth, esophagus, colon, and breast.  Without a doubt, as people are able to take in more antioxidants, they will boost their overall health.  It can be a great addition to any diet.  Berries are generally packed with them.

They Taste Good

Berries come in a variety of types.  There are enough different ones to choose from to pretty much meet anyone’s preferences in flavors.  We enjoy having them with yogurt or cereal at breakfast.  They can be added to ice creams.  They can be added to some salads.  Of course, they are always good just by themselves or with milk.  They appear to be pretty popular in smoothies as well.  The sky seems to be the limit on how to use them.  It may be a good opportunity to allow your family to be a little creative.  Try picking up a few, and see what happens.  They are sure to be enjoyed fresh or frozen.  Try some different kinds every week for a while, and enhance your daily diet while enhancing your health.
