You May Smell a Little But Be Healthy

By Tom Herrin

People are funny, and their tastes can be that way too.  There are times when personal likes may be well-founded when it comes to health.  Many can be heard to swear by some particular food or spice or some other thing that they believe helps them to maintain their health.  Most have seen these people over 100 years old who swear they take a drink every day. These are more likely cases of great genetics than just the right foods.  One of the foods that does seem to have some kind of merit is garlic. Many people use it and feel certain it has protected them. It does have some merit.

It May Prevent Blood Clots

The possibility of having blood clots is no laughing matter.  It can result in serious problems for those who experience them.  Many people seek to find foods, or something, that help prevent them.  As many people age, it is more common for the blood to thicken and clots to form.  Garlic is believed to help prevent them. Some people use it on a daily basis for maintenance and feel that they owe their success to its use.

It May Protect Against Disease

A lot of people use garlic consistently as a way of boosting immunities.  It is not just because the diseases don’t like the smell of it, either. There seems to be some real evidence for the idea that garlic can keep some illnesses away.  Garlic has allicin. This is a compound that is known to be quite effective as an antiviral and antifungal agent. It also appears to kill some bacteria. This makes it an all-around good choice as a disease fighter.

It May Lower Blood Pressure

Garlic has been used by many people for years as a means of maintaining blood pressure at a healthy level.  It seems the polysulfides in it can help to increase the flexibility of the blood vessels. It helps them to widen as they have greater pressure from the blood.  This means less stress on the walls of those vessels. One study showed that people who were being treated for blood pressure problems with poor results had good results when given one gram of garlic per day.  Combine this with the added flavor when garlic is used, and it is enough reason for me to try it.
