Fulfilling Your Resolutions in 2020

By Randi Morse

When we make our resolutions every new year we have the best of intentions, but a few months into the new year we find that it's much more difficult to hold to our resolutions than we may have thought possible. One of the biggest reasons why resolutions are so difficult to stick to is because we don't have a solid plan to implement them into our lives. If you're trying to stick to your New Year's resolutions, here are a few tips that can help you to bring your changes to fruition.

Start Slowly

If you're trying to make changes in your lifestyle, it's important to make the changes gradually. Going from a sedate lifestyle to running a marathon in a few short weeks is an unattainable and unrealistic goal. When you want to make big changes in your life, you need to start slowly. If, for example, you want to eat healthier, start by substituting one or two meals a week. Make one night a dedicated vegetarian night, or vow to stop going out to eat as often. Once you have adjusted to these small changes you can add more changes until you've changed your entire diet.

Enlist the Family

The easiest way to make big changes in your life is to have your entire family make the changes with you. Take the time to speak with your family before the new year begins and explain the changes that you`re hoping to make and ask them to support you by making the changes with you. Ask your family members what changes they`re hoping to make in the new year and vow to help them with their lifestyle adjustments as well. Not only will you be much more likely to be successful, you'll enjoy family bonding time as well.

Avoid Big Purchases

If you plan on exercising more it can be tempting to purchase exercise equipment to help you achieve your goals. Far too often those high tech exercise machines wind up becoming expensive clothes hangers. It's best to try to avoid purchasing expensive equipment or anything that costs a great deal to help you with your resolutions. Prove first that you can stick to your resolution. Once you've had a few months of successful changes, that's when the purchase of expensive equipment makes more sense.

Keep in mind that you don't have to wait until January 1st to make changes in your lifestyle. While that is traditionally a popular time, the truth is that any time is a good time to invest in healthy changes in your life.
