5 Spring Activities That Promote Fitness
By Brandi Swieter
Springtime arrives and many people are ready to head outdoors and enjoy the consistent fresh air. Rather than simply walking outside and sitting around, some spring activities can help people get in shape for the season. There are plenty of spring activities that promote fitness, often without people even realizing it. They get the body moving like it hasn’t in a while.
Many people start up their gardens in the spring; it’s the ideal time to begin handling the damage the winter did and preparing what’s left for plants to grow come summertime. People don’t have to have a green thumb to garden. They can simply pull up the weeds, rake the dirt, and plant a few seeds to get something started.
Spring cleaning is a commonly known phrase, but what people might not realize is that vigorous cleaning like this can bring health benefits. People who take the time to fully clean their homes both inside and out are getting in exercise they may not have noticed. All the bending, lifting, reaching, and scrubbing works out various muscles within the body and can leave it feeling quite sore and worked out when the tasks are finished.
Once the weather starts to warm up, many people bring out their bikes and go for a ride. It feels great to have a breeze against the face as you’re working up a sweat riding hard. Even leisurely bike riding promotes fitness, as the legs and arms are both engaged at once and moving in a way they’re not used to moving. It helps build muscle and strength in both of these areas.
Flying a kite isn’t just for kids. There are actually competitions held for kite flyers who want to show they can take their kites to the highest heights. On a windy spring day, anyone can take a kite outside and let it soar. All the walking and running around to keep up with the kite will have people getting in a workout they didn’t expect.
Fitness is possible from a number of activities, including springtime options that have people moving or working harder than they have in awhile. Try out a few or all and see how the body feels afterward.
Don't take health for granted, and take advantage of these (mostly) fun options to disguise your workout.
