Enjoy Fine Dining Without Feeling Guilty

By Brandi Goodman

Heading to a fine dining establishment, or really any restaurant for that matter, may have never needed much consideration in the past. When you're following a healthy lifestyle, however, it may seem unwise to frequent these places. Eating at home allows you to know exactly what's going into your food and the nutrition your meal provides. You can still enjoy fine dining without feeling guilty as long as you follow a few tips.

Drink Water

Part of why so many people feel bloated and full after a meal at a restaurant is because they eat and drink far too many calories. Soda pop tends to leave a bloated and gassy feeling in the stomach due to the carbonation. Avoiding drinks like this and sticking to water only is the best way to keep this feeling at bay and feel fuller faster so you're not overeating.

Eat Half, Take Half

Just because a full plate of food is in front of you does not mean you have to eat it all. Follow the rule of eating only half your meal and taking the other half home any time you go out. This will help you cut down on calories and save you money as you're turning one meal into two.

Skip the Appetizer

Lots of people order an appetizer to give them something to snack on while they wait for their meal. Many restaurants even offer a small appetizer free of charge. This is tempting to eat but should be avoided. Italian restaurants may provide breadsticks, for example, while Mexican restaurants will offer tortilla chips and salsa. Simply push these to the side and let others people enjoy them. If you can't resist, just take a couple bites of what's available so you get a taste without going overboard.

Make Your Selection Before Arriving

Many restaurants now offer their menus online. This allows you to check before you even step foot into the restaurant for the offerings they have. Make your selection before you arrive so you can be sure to choose a healthier option. It will have you less tempted to change your mind once there and go for a higher calorie meal.

Enjoy fine dining without feeling guilty anytime you want. Just be sure you're following these tips and choosing the best options for your health. Plenty of restaurants have healthy options as long as you know how to look for them or ask.
