You May Add Length to Your Life
By Tom Herrin
Of all the things we have the power to control, many of us likely feel that length of life may be out of reach. With the advances that have been made today, there is a good chance that we can do a lot to help lengthen our lives. It may help us to avoid many problems that are far too common. If we will make the effort to learn as much as possible, make a good plan, and keep a commitment, we can increase our chances of living a longer life with greater quality. Knowledge and action are the keys.
Move a Lot
We should never stop moving. It is essential for our heart, circulatory system, joints, and muscles. It is too tempting for us to get to a point in which we feel that we owe it to ourselves to slow down and take it easy. While slowing down may be good at times, taking it easy is a good way to start a progression toward deterioration. Inactivity is an enemy we can't afford to embrace. If we want to maintain good health, we need to stay as active as possible. A good walking routine may be a start. There are plenty of successful exercise programs around that are readily available. As for me, I enjoy riding a bicycle.
Take Advantage of Screenings
When it comes to modern technology, we have plenty to take advantage of. Utilizing what we have can help us to plan. Blood pressure may be monitored at most any pharmacy. Home monitors are readily available at relatively low prices. All kinds of cancer screenings can be accessed in most locations. Colonoscopies have been responsible for saving countless lives. Skin cancer screenings are simple and painless. They can provide for identifying and treating these simply. There are all kinds of other screenings that include those for the organs and circulatory system. Neglecting to pursue these may be inviting problems.
Help Others
There is plenty of need for individuals who volunteer. Serving others is a great thing. Anyone who has ever done so can likely testify of the benefits. Many older individuals are volunteers and find the experience to be rewarding. I have done so and found that there is no substitute for the feeling. When we feel good about ourselves, we will likely be happier and healthier.
