Knee Pain and Chiropractic Care

By Randi Morse

We don't often realize the extent of wear and tear that we put on our knees unless something happens to cause a knee injury. Our knees are like the shock absorbers of our body. Any time you walk, run, jump, or climb stairs, your knees are helping to support the weight of your body which is why it's not uncommon for people to be dealing with knee pain.

Common Causes of Knee Pain

If you're experiencing knee pain there could be a number of things that could be responsible for the pain, starting with trauma. The knee is so commonly injured that the Arthritis Foundation has listed it as one of the most injury-prone joints in our bodies. There are three main ligaments in the knee that tend to be the most accident-prone and that includes the anterior cruciate ligament, more commonly known as the ACL, the medial collateral ligament, or MCL, and the posterior cruciate ligament, or PCL. Any sort of sudden twisting motion, or a sudden change in direction, can cause injury to the ACL. The PCL is often injured due to a direct impact, as is the MCL.

Chiropractors and Knee Injuries

There are some knee injuries that require surgical intervention, but there are many others that can be helped using the right therapeutic treatments. A big problem with knee injuries is that they can cause other bodily problems, namely problems with your back. If you are dealing with an injured knee you are likely to either limp or have to use crutches or some other form of orthopedic device while you are healing. That is where chiropractic care shines.

If you are dealing with a knee injury, no matter whether it is an acute problem or a chronic one, your chiropractor will likely be able to help. A chiropractor can help during the healing treatment, by providing gentle manipulation and massage to help ease the muscles and tendons, and can also provide spinal manipulation and chiropractic care once you have healed to ensure that there are no subluxations or joint restrictions causing you to be in more pain.

The Joint Chiropractic offers a wide variety of plans and packages that are ideal for someone dealing with the aftereffects of a knee injury. With the right treatment, your chiropractor can help to ease your pain and may even be able to help speed up your recovery. You'll find affordable rates as well as walk-in office hours at your local Joint Chiropractic office.
