Why Grapes Make a Great Snack

By Genevieve Cunningham

When it comes to eating healthy, snacking can make or break your diet. If you eat really good all day, but your snacks consist of donuts or chocolate bars or potato chips, your health will not be as good as you hoped. It’s important to keep your snacking to a minimum, and when you do reach for a snack, it should be as healthy as possible. Sometimes it seems as though all of the healthy options are difficult or time consuming … what can you do? If you need a snack that is both healthy and super easy, take a look at why you should give grapes a try.

They’re Easy and Delicious

Grapes are so easy to eat. You wash them, pick them off of the vine, and enjoy. When it comes to snacking, almost nothing beats convenience. And to top it off, grapes also taste delicious. Want a little tang? Try the green version. Looking for sweetness? Go for the red or black grapes. Or if you’re interested in variety, mix them all together in a bag and take them all with you. If you need a snack that’s easy, tastes good, and is healthy too, grapes are definitely a great choice.

They Contain Antioxidants

Much like berries, grapes contain loads of antioxidants. But even though you’ve probably heard of this word, you may not really understand what that means. Why are antioxidants good? Antioxidants help to protect cell production and function in the body. When your body’s cells are in good health, you’re less likely to suffer from illness -- including certain kinds of cancer. Will eating grapes keep you completely cancer and illness free? No, but eating your fair share of antioxidants definitely gives your body a little more energy and nutrients to fight.

They’re Anti-Inflammatory

It’s thought that grapes contain a nutrient that is a natural anti-inflammatory. This means that it might reduce swelling within the body. This might be in the digestive tract, in blood vessels, in body organs, or elsewhere. When you can keep inflammation out of the body, it reduces pain and illness, and works to keep your body in better condition overall.

If you’re looking for a healthy snack to add to your menu, grapes are a great option. Just hit up your local grocer or farmer’s market and pick out a delicious looking bundle. With just a bundle or two, you’ll have a super easy, tasty, and healthy treat to use as a snack for anytime of day.
