Is There an Answer to the Netflix Binge?

By Genevieve Cunningham

Netflix and chill is the hottest way to hang out in our modern world. We love to binge the recently released season of our favorite show. We love the convenience -- and the inexpensive price doesn't hurt either. But since the invention of services like Netflix, there's been a serious decline in activity in our lives. We don't even have to go anywhere anymore; we have literally hours of entertainment at our immediate disposal. But is there an answer to this phenomenon? Or are we doomed to the Netflix and chill lifestyle forever? Luckily, there may be a way to enjoy your binge sessions without risking your health. To get moving in the right direction, take a look at these tips.

There's Restraint

Perhaps the most obvious way to manage this lifestyle is to practice restraint. Just because you can watch hours of entertainment doesn't mean that you have to, right? The problem is that we're basically addicted to the instant gratification. Practicing restraint will require a lot of practice and patience. If you can manage it though, this is probably your best and most basic option.

There's Exercise

If you're going to spend a lot of time watching TV, then at least keep up a regular exercise routine. This can help negate the effects of your binge session, even if it can't completely eliminate the negative side effects. They key is to make it routine. One workout won't work! Get into a routine and exercise every single day to make this work for you and your health.

There's Balance

It doesn't have to be all or nothing. What if you simply learned some balance? Watch your show but step on the treadmill while you're doing it. Make yourself do jumping jacks between each episode. It is possible to balance your love for Netflix and your health. Make it the goal, and you can basically have your cake and eat it too.

Netflix and chill isn't going anywhere, and most of us are glad! Netflix -- and the entire streaming television option -- is awesome! But don't let this new culture ruin your health. Use these tips to keep the balance in check, and you may be able to keep your favorite hobby and your health intact as well.
