Think Outside the Box for More Exercise

By Tom Herrin

There are plenty of problems with trying to get more exercise.  One of them is that many of us become bored and lose interest when we get ourselves into some kind of exercise class or group.  Doing the same old thing every day or several times per week can tend to cause some burnout pretty fast.  No matter how much we may be gaining from it, it can be difficult to keep ourselves motivated enough to continue.  If you are making a list, it may be really long as there are unlimited kinds of activities out there.

Go to a Playground

If you haven't been to a playground lately, you may be in for a surprise.  There are all kinds of activities available at them today.  Swings are always fun, but there are overhead ladders and poles that will require a little physical strength to do.  Many of them now have climbing walls that can be challenging but fun at the same time.  Of course, you will want to take a child with you so people don't begin to wonder about you.

Hiking Can Be Done Almost Anywhere

If you have not really been on a hike, you have missed something.  Hiking allows you to learn to pace yourself while having a goal in mind.  Whether you are hiking at a local nature trail or doing so in a more rugged area, it can be refreshing to get out and enjoy the outdoors.  It is important, however, that you prepare ahead of time.  Shoes are a critical part of experiencing the kind of success you want to have.  You also need to know what to take with you.  If you can't take much water, you don't want to do anything other than some kind of circular route so that you can end it whenever you need to.

Team Sports Are All Around

While some people love them, others don't, but there are all kinds of team sports around for those who do.  It can be anything from volleyball to soccer and all kinds of things in-between.  If you want one of these in order to stay more motivated, you can pick the one that fits you best.  Don't get involved in something that is really strenuous if you are not up to it.  Overdoing it in exercise can be counterproductive, but there will be something that peaks your interest.
