Tried and True Ways to Change Your Weight

By Virginia Laird

If you are like the vast majority of people, you have probably (at some point) struggled with weight loss. While losing weight can prove to be a battle, it does not need to get the best of you. If you are one who has tried every diet available, it may be nice to hear that this is no longer recommended. Research suggests that dieting is longer the way to lose weight and keep it off. Rather, weight loss is in the commitment to change a few lifestyle habits. A few tips from those who have been successful in losing weight include:

  • Have a goal
  • Make a plan to reach your desired weight
  • Be willing to give up some things
  • Never give up

Have a Goal

The first step in losing weight is having a goal. It can be difficult to be successful when you are unsure what defines your accomplishment. Research suggests that having a goal is the single best way to ensure you lose weight. Another idea is to set a timeframe. This can help you stay on track.

Make a Plan to Reach Your Desired Weight

Some may think that having a goal and making a plan are one in the same. Rather, planning requires you to break down the goal into a variety of short-term goals as well as devise a plan to meet each. It never fails, I constantly feel as though I am trying to lose weight. One main part of my plan is to exercise daily. While this is a great place to begin, it is not the only path to choose. The important part of planning is that you stick to it through thick and thin (no pun intended).

Be Willing to Give Up Some Things

If you are attempting to lose weight, it is imperative to be willing to give up some of the goodies you so enjoy. This can include candy, cookies, bread, and soda. Although the list of things to abstain from is much lengthier, choose only a few things to begin with. Cutting off everything cold turkey can be a recipe for failure.

Never Give Up

Health and wellness experts advise that along the journey to a skinnier you, there will be pitfalls. It is during these times when you need to dig in your heels and refuse to be beaten. Having the willpower and determination to keep going is a huge part of being successful. Research suggests it can be wise to find a buddy who is trying to lose weight and join the journey together. This can help keep you both motivated.

You are now ready to set out on your weight loss journey. You can do it!
