Chiropractic's Stance on Stroller Struggles

Pushing a stroller provides excellent exercise for mom or dad. There is a wrong way to do it, though. Some stroller struggles are hard to manage, such as pushing one up a hill or having a handle that's far too low. Chiropractic's stance on stroller struggles can help you maneuver yours pain-free. 

Adjust the Height

One of the biggest problems with pushing a stroller is the inappropriate height. Taller parents will have to hunch over a short stroller, causing back pain. You need to be sure the stroller sits at a reasonable height for you. You should be able to push forward with ease -- no hunching involved. 

Look Forward

Too many people continuously look down as they walk or run with a stroller. Sure, it's normal to want to check on your child, but doing so as you're moving can lead to neck pain. Keeping your head down as you run will hurt your neck and shoulders quickly. You need to stay looking forward to avoid this pain. Stop and check on baby at regular intervals if you're worried.

Don't Lock Your Arms

Hand, arm, and shoulder pain is all too common from stroller pushing. You may find yourself locking your arms in place and holding tension in your elbows. The pain may radiate from your hands up through your arms and into your shoulders. It's best to keep your hands and arms loose and make sure they're slightly bent while pushing rather than held straight.

Consider Baby's Age and Abilities

You aren't the only one to worry about. Jogging with a stroller can cause harm to your baby if you aren't careful. Consider your child's age and abilities when choosing just how to place them inside. A child younger than eight months old may not have the neck or core strength to keep themselves sitting up right. An infant carrier should be used in this instance to keep the baby safe.
