The Ideal Clothing for a Chiropractic Visit

By Brandi Swieter

Many people head to their first chiropractic visit without any idea at all of what to expect. They aren’t sure what will go down when they get there, let alone what they should wear to make the visit the most comfortable. The ideal clothing for a chiropractor visit will ensure a comfortable experience that makes the session go quickly and smoothly.

Loose-Fitting Garments

Restrictive clothing may make it difficult to move as instructed. Loose-fitting garments are often ideal, as they allow the patient to stretch and bend as needed to receive an adequate diagnosis. The clothes should not be overly large or baggy, though, as this can interfere with the diagnosis and the excess fabric hanging down can get in the way during the adjustment. Items should be loose yet fitting.

Thin Fabric

Although a sweatshirt may be loose-fitting, it is far too bulky to wear during a chiropractic appointment. If a patient wants a proper adjustment without their clothes getting in the way, then a thin layer of fabric will do the trick. Regular T-shirts and blouses work fine, but sweaters and sweatshirts do not.

Shorts

Some offices may require that patients change into a gown for at least the first visit. This is so the doctor can get a full medical exam completed to pinpoint where the underlying problems may be. Rather than having to strip down to boxers, men may be permitted to wear shorts underneath the gown that make them feel more comfortable.

Yoga Pants

Visits that allow street clothing are the most common. For bottoms, yoga pants are ideal because they are flexible and stretchy. If women must bend and move for an assessment, they will easily be able to do so. Jeans are far too restrictive and will not allow women to move as needed during the process.

No Jewelry

Jewelry can get in the way of an adjustment. It is best if it's avoided altogether during a visit to the chiropractor. Leave all earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and other jewelry items at home to ensure nothing is around to get in the way and hinder the process. Those with other body piercings may want to remove those as well so they do not get pushed or pulled during the procedure.

Before heading to The Joint Chiropractic for the first time, be sure to have on all the right clothes to make the visit the most comfortable and worthwhile. Those who want to double check can call ahead of time to see if there are additional items they recommend to wear or not to wear.
