Enjoy the Fall TV Binge With Healthy Choices

By Brandi Goodman

The typical fall TV binge is soon to arrive, with all the new fall shows and the return of favorites starting shortly. Most shows start back up in September or October with new episodes each week to enjoy. Binge-watching TV isn't exactly the healthiest activity, but you can make it more worthwhile by incorporating some healthy choices.

Workout and Watch

Don't stay stuck to the couch when watching TV. It's fine to want to sit down and relax for an evening, but you shouldn't always be sitting every time you want to watch a show this fall. With several most likely on your list, be sure to add a workout to the mix sometimes while you watch. Put your treadmill in front of the television or use a stair stepper. You can get your fall show fix while still staying active.

Choose Water and Healthy Snacks

Too many people think TV and movie time means soda pop and sugary or salty snacks. You should be choosing water and healthy snack options if you truly want to improve your health. Keep a bottle of water with you while you watch so you can take a drink when you need. Bring a serving of something healthy to eat as well and don't overdo it. Even a full plate of nutritional options can become problematic if you're overeating.

Stretch Regularly

If you decide to sit and relax while you watch TV then at least be sure to stretch regularly. You don't want your body becoming stiff if you sit on the couch for too long. This is especially true if you have several shows in a row to watch. Lift your legs as you're sitting to stretch them out and be sure to actually stand and stretch during commercial breaks.

Lower Your Screen's Brightness

You may not realize it but your television screen actually emits high-energy visible light. HEVs can penetrate into your skin and eyes, causing damage. You can lower your screen's brightness to prevent this light from harming you. Be sure to look away from the screen as often as possible as well to really improve your prevention chances.

You don't have to miss out on all your favorite fall shows or some new arrivals because of your health journey. Enjoy the fall TV binge each week with healthier choices that make it worthy of your time.
