Finding More Time for Fitness Even When You're Busy

By Brandi Swieter

Too many people use the excuse of being busy as a means to get out of exercising. This approach to life will have people unhealthy and avoiding the tasks they should be accomplishing for themselves. Yes, work and home life can get in the way of a workout at times, but it doesn’t have to be the excuse for never exercising at all. There are ways to find time for fitness even when people have busy lives.

Schedule Time

The best way to ensure fitness gets added to the routine is by scheduling it. People need to find a spot on their schedules where nothing is written and add exercise to the list. Even just a half hour a day, or even a few times a week to start, is better than no exercise at all.

Make it Fun

Not a lot of people enjoy working out, but many do it anyway so they can stay fit and healthy. Those who struggle to exercise can make it more worth their time by making it fun. This could mean joining a dance class, going swimming, or simply pumping up the music. With some enjoyment added in, individuals are much more likely to stick with it.

Combine It With TV Time

While screen time really should be limited, countless people have their favorite shows they just have to watch each week. Rather than sitting slumped on the couch, a healthier alternative is doing some exercise while focusing on the television. People can use the treadmill, walk in place, do stretches, or find other ways to work out while they get their binge on.

Turn a Date into a Workout

Couples that spend time together doing activities often have a strong bond and attraction. Rather than staying in to watch a movie or heading to dinner, a date should get turned into a workout whenever possible. Not only does it help add the activity to the calendar so you get exercise time in, but it could also help you connect with your partner. A hike through the woods or even just a walk in the park is a great start. To turn it up a notch, try tossing or kicking a ball back and forth, joining a class together, or even taking dance lessons.

People who lead busy lives can still find time for fitness if they try. By scheduling some exercise time, making it fun, combining it with their TV time, and turning dates into workouts, exercise can get done easier and more regularly than before. After all, regular fitness is important for overall health.
